If you want to play the games, you could go in order even though it won't really do anything story wise. It will be a little jarring to go backwards while playing because of how differently they... play.

Normally on ebay you can find people who don't really know how to sell the games so they just put them together in a lot. That's a good way to get a lot of the older games, if you're not picky on them being used.

Platinum -> BW -> B2W2 -> XY. If you're interested in remakes play HGSS after Platinum and ORAS after XY.

And to answer your question, play them all, they're all fun and subjective to your preferences. But don't worry about playing them BEFORE Sun and Moon

But yes, do it. I recommend platinum and both the gen 5 games (BW and BW2), maybe XY. Going in order is better because of graphics and etc but it doesn't really matter. For platinum and BW/2, just download an emulator.

Like everyone already said, play them in order, every game as an history that's worth playing, it's also more interesting watching how the sprites change inbetween games and how those transform into 3d models in XY
