Lol all this Alder hate. Alder is actually quite possibly my favorite champion just because he feels more down to earth, real and "human" than any other champion before him. He's traveling unova in procrastination and because he's still dealing with the grief of having his long time partner Pokémon die. Him losing to N off screen was necessary to really show how serious team plasma was, but I think it was nice seeing a champion lose to someone OTHER than the player. He's also a bug champion with a solid team, and he's pretty helpful in bw2 along with being one of the best post game bosses in that game. All this makes him WAY better than Diantha

The weak link in her group was Hawlucha, but had a well enough balanced team alongside a Pseudo in a way that fit an felt dynamic to some level.
Lance, especially only in G/S where the refight team didn't exist, will stand as the worst champion in terms of a team. Wallace is next in line for shit teams. Iris and Alder are a bit nebulous a bit under Diantha. Blue next. Steven, and then at the top is the hell of Cynthia's team.

This. There was no champion before Blue, hell at that point GF didn't even know what the elite four were. In the manga they were basically pre-team Flare with Lance as Lysandre/N trying to kill all humans for pokemon.

Also it is possible when you start the game the current champion left or died, which is why on Oak's pc it says the league is summoning trainers to come to the pokemon league to become the new one.

This bugged the fuck out of me in Gen 6. It's like they had this big grandiose story to tell with AZ and the power plant and stuff, then they just said "Ah, fuck it, we'll just move on to Gen 7". That's why so many people refused to believe Gen 7 was a new generation and not like a Gen 6.5 or something. It's because SO much shit was left hanging in X/Y.
