OP I'll give you a 10/10 for boxing your starter, using often ignored mons like Muk and also for using Venomoth, which is one of my favs.

I'm currently playing through omega ruby with:

Venomoth
Aggron
Lumineon
Serperior
and a lvl42 Pichu that won't evolve because I'm the shittiest trainer in all the land (and mostly I keep accidentally letting it faint)

I actually started doing this as well because I actually wanted a complete dex before Sun and Moon.

The best advice I can give us that the GTS is your savior. It can save you hours of tedious searching. Breed a shit ton of one starter and use them when you run into something you can't easily catch or has to be traded from other games. So far, I've found people will trade anything for starters. Save the females for legendary trades.

Other than that, just get used to lots of boring grinding and searching. Have fun!
