The lag comes from the totem effect, not the Pokemon. It's the fire/aura constantly flowing off of it. The same thing kinda happens with Moltres in XY.

It's either because the demo doesn't have a whole lot of power or that I'm using an old 3DS or both.

"Fire" and "aura" effects for some reason seem to be fairly common for games to mess up on. I've played a few games that run great but the moment you get some fire on screen or a character starts putting out some sort of super mode aura like the totems have the game just shits itself.

When I played Danball Senki W on my Vita a few years ago, whenever a character's robot entered a super mode like in this pic the framerate would absolutely chug even though it was a cutscene and otherwise the framerate issues that game had in battles weren't any issue in cutscenes. I don't think the PSP version of the game had that any framerate issues in cutscenes, either, despite battles running worse.

I have both a launch day N3DSXL and a launch day O3DS regular.
the O3DS got really hot and the totem battle looked like I was fighting Moltres with 3D turned on while someone used Fire Blast

On the N3DS I had no drops outside of the snap mini-game, and extremely slight drops against the totem.
That said, some people with an O3DS report no issues while some with an N3DS report notable frame drops. it seems very inconsistent and I'm starting to think its something besides just hardware

My JP O3DS from late 2011 got so hot I'm kinda scared of playing the full game on it, but the US O3DS which was a replacement from late 2012 didn't get hot but still chugged like hell on the Totem. The US one also has a hugeass Nyko extended battery though so maybe I couldn't feel the heat through it. Which is even scarier.
