Is it bad that I'm going to get one of these things and play through the game as if it was my starter?
I think an "NPC" start would be interesting for once instead of being that kid that has the starter pokemon hardly anyone else has.

have fun trading that in from someone who's gotten to the 4th island, i guess

I bought X and lost it halfway through the game so I got Y.
In Y I wonder traded my starter for a Glameow.
It was way more fun than playing with a normal starter in my opinion. I would suggest others try it for one game.

I always try to start with a Treecko, so go for it, man.

Nah, I plan to try and trade a bred pokemon just for a fresh start because building bonds and shit
>aka autism
I've done it before with zubat and other various shitmon, so I can't see why you can't, OP.
I haven't actually used a starter since Gen 4
I hate the special snowflake feeling it gives and they make for boring aces

I wanted to use a Treecko at first, but I don't want to wait until January to play SM.

Some of the most fun I've had in games is with non-Starter playthroughs.
Seviper in Emerald.
Gible in Platinum.
Joltik in Black.
Spritzee (Shiny) in Y.
Curious as to what I should do for Sun or Moon.

I'm probably ditching my starter fora poliwag I'll evolve into only a poliwhirl with eviolite.

I've played through HGSS with Magnemite as a starter (simple hack to make zone into a level evolution).
It's a fun bonding experience and you should go for it, OP.

This was my exact plan too but I don't know how feasible it would be or how early we'll be able to trade.
