Conpletely remake the type effectiveness chart.

>Untyped - Weak: Nothing; Resist: Nothing
Replaces Normal/Fighting types. Meant to just be the well rounded filler type.

>Fire - Weak: Water/Earth; Resist: Nature/Steel
>Water - Weak: Nature/Electric; Resist: Fire/Earth
>Nature - Weak: Fire/Steel; Resist: Water/Electric
Nature is a combination of Grass/Bug. Ice gets rolled into Water. This is your basic elemental starter triangle.

>Earth - Weak: Water/Nature Resist: Electric/Earth/Fire
Combination of Rock and Ground. Heavily defensive typing.
>Magic - Weak: Dark/Electric; Resist: Steel/Dragon
Combination of Fairy and Psychic. Name needs some work IMO, but gets the point across. Steel/Electric weaknesses to represent a clash of Fantasy vs Sci-if.
>Dragon - Weak: Magic/Steel; Resist: Fire/Water/Nature
Dragon retains its "boss status" of being resistant to all the starters. It's weak to the types that would make up your generic band of fantasy adventurers of Mages and Knights.

>Dark - Weak: Magic/Steel Resist: Dark/Dragon
Combination of Dark/Ghost/Poison. Meant to be a mix of evil, as well as just generally dirty fighting.

>Electric - Weak: Earth/Dark; Resist: Water/Nature


Some of the type match ups are admittedly only for balance reasons and don't make PERFECT sense, but all in all I think it acomplishes what the original type chart does, and is thematically interesting. However it still simplifies the chart a bit, without doing the stupid fucking thing that most fan type charts do of completely mirroring all Weaknesses and Resistances.

I'd also make a few other changes, like all Pokémon having two types, and a Pokémon a secondary typing giving it a unique effect. Electric types get Paralysis immunity, Nature gets poison immunity, Normal is the only type to benefit from STAB, etc.

Gen 1 is kept to appeal to genwunners and not lose 99% of the fanbase. Other gens are discarded and ~100 new Pokemon are introduced.

Combat now works similar to Zelda, lock on an enemy, real time battles. You can still only have 4 moves. Aside from that you can also protect yourself to reduce damage or jump sideways to dodge attacks or protect yourself (still take some damage, but less). Types still work the same.

Levels are a now only used for learning moves and evolution. They don't affect stats. You get stronger by learning better moves, but it's still entirely possible to beat a high level Pokemon with a low level one if you're good at the game.

Pokémon keep their base stats. HP, Attack, Sp. Attack. Defense and Sp. Defense affect how good your shield is. Speed is splitted into movement speed and attacking speed.

Accuracy and Evasiveness affect how much you can stay locked on an enemy while it's moving.

PP resplenish over time. Moves also have a "casting time" and delay after you use the attack depending on the move.

Double battles are in, but require a second player or one of your Pokemon is controlled by the AI.

The core gameplay could stay mostly the same I think. Challenge gyms, catch Pokemon, etc. but I'd also be fine if this were a Stadium-type game that just focused on battles.

You could start with the starters and have to fight progressively stronger Pokemon to unlock them when you beat them.

IDK I think it would be pretty fun.

All the original 1000 are in.
The new game runs with completely new pokemon, a huge number of them. 250.
After you Beat the E4 you unlock new game plus, which unlocks all the 1250 pokemon to show up in the world (give or take version differences)
This version is unlockable before you beat the game with online download (like receiving a gift)
In NG+ the game becomes much harder.

Pokemon get a Syncronisation type ability, boosting a pokemons stats up to mega levels, this works like Z moves, and allows any of the "bad" pokemon to become viable.

The core game remains the same, but you can open your own gym, or become an E4 champion.
Pokemon world tournament is in it.

The world story is much more story driven, you make your character at the start with a handfull of backstory options.

>Slightly older, starting your adventure after school.
>Adult who decided to try something new and goes on there journey.
These would all have different rival/friends but not change the story to much. Think mass effect backstories.

Trainer customisation, shinies are not as important, in it's place color variants exist. So there would be multiple shades of pikachu, maybe even some brown and orange.

Now the big one, Jump in and out multiplayer.
The little buildings between paths now have a purpose, speaking to the person behind the counter will turn online mode on.
This will let you see randoms/people from your friends list who are in the same area as you. You can party up, or fight, trade whatever.

The world would be much much larger to, to keep things interesting.

Anon you are replying to here. The list isn't fully fleshed out. Was actually thinking of having "traits" as well. They are basically like Levitate/Thick Fat, except don't take the ability slot. They change your type matchups in a minor way. Flying would no longer be a type, it would just be a trait which gives Earth Resistance and Electric Weakness.

So pokemon would have 2 types, possibly a trait, and an ability. That way specific pokemon who have reasons to be immune/resistant/weak to a specific type can still have those, without needing to add an additional type for it. It could also be used for things like sound where a new archetype could be added without adding in an entirely new type.

Attacks could also have their own traits, which mechanically would be something like Freeze Dry, adding a type its super-effective against even when it normally wouldn't be.

Please, they are simplified, but not so much as THAT bullshit. Like I said, the RPS system that a lot of pokemon clones use is just pure cancer with no actual subtleties to the type matchups.

Good combat system (though massively need in some more variety), Neat gimmick for the starters to all be multiple types, The only thing it really did terribly was the encounter rates for monsters with high stats. The distribution should have been a bit more even.
