To be fair, repicking the 6-man team every time I want to train a small gym is annoying but it's so much better than just sending in one Pokemon and then rolling the dice to see if I can win at least one battle before getting killed. Also now you can deal with the teammate who puts a 1400 CP Snorlax at the front instead of giving up on the gym.

If you mean if it's the same formula, yeah. Basically it only checks the CP of the highest mon on your team and then computes presitge from that.

e.g., gym lineup is 1500 CP - 2000 CP - 2100 CP - ...
If you have a lineup of 1400 CPs, you would get like +600 prestige per defender.
If you have a lineup of 1900 CPs, you would get +100 on the first one, and then +600 on the rest.

I am an addict to grinding. I really wanted to avoid PoGo because (a) I heard a lot about Niantic's shenanigans with Ingress and it was obviously from their first announcement that it was going to just be a half-assed clone of Ingress, and (b) my autism (read: OCD) prevents me from quitting a game until I finish grinding. Not max-IVs and shit (though it'd be nice) but more like max level. I used to be the kind of loser who'd be solo grinding in Korean MMOs 24/7 and theorycrafting grinding patterns with spreadsheets and shit because that's what my STEM education is useful for :^). In hindsight, it was a bad time, and I am better about it now.

I have avoided most phone games too so I use my Android phone purely for texts and calls so I basically never had a reason to look at it 99% of the day. Now that I'm leaving PoGo on 24/7, it feels nice in that it gives me something to do when my ADD kicks in and I need to compulsively stare at something else other than my work screen.

Again, I really wanted to avoid PoGo but one of my genwunner friends basically threatened to ditch me in the middle of rural bumfuck nowhere without a car/ride/cell service if I didn't start playing with him. Now he never plays because he's always busy because of ~work~. It's a bit lonely to be honest but I'm not unhappy.

They're trying to "reverse" tripcodes except instead of 10 characters, it's a lot longer.

The source code for the hash function tripcodes use is publicly available.
But nobody has actually succeeding in REVERSING it.

They came up with better hardware to brute-force all possible tripcodes faster, and a couple shortcuts here and there, but no actual reversing.

That's why they're not going to succeed.

They're going to talk shit for a few days, then either (a) quit, (b) go back to iOS, (c) talk shit about finding a different solution/approach and then extend the timeline and MAYBE find a better plan. It depends on the definition of "reversing."

If you define it as "math," you're right. That's the whole fucking point of a hash function. Cheap to compute, prohibitively expensive to invert.

If you define it as "reverse-engineer the function," it's easier. You can either dig the code out of the binary (which is what's already been done and rejected as per >>29371371 pic related) and just run that code.

Or you can dig that code out of the binary, actually reverse-engineer it to the point that you understand the algorithm being used to generate the hash, and then say "Hey, would anybody be able to write code that prints out the hex of the encounter ID in ASCII, then passes that hex string through rot13, and takes the MD5 checksum of the rot13'd string?"

IANAL (NTTAWWT) and applying the concepts of intellectual property law across jurisdiction is a black art even for those who are lawyers, but the gist of it is that it's a Bad Idea to just run bytes 0xDEADBEEF through 0xDEADBFFF of somebody else's code because you obviously copied it, but it's Perfectly Okay to express the same concept as md5(rot13(ltoa(EncounterID))). The first is copyright infringement; the second is mathematics.

Bug Bite is the superior fast attack since it's just as quick but with higher base power. Well it depends. It's a matter of tuning, catch less pokemons, require less candies and it's fine for casuals (and probably non-casuals too), it's not as if battling was hard.
On top of that, getting rid of 99% of what you catch and catching the same shit all the time isn't really making the game great for casuals (and non-casuals too once again).
I knew one casual who played the game, he dropped it pretty fast because he was tired of catching weedles and pidgeys.

Many stops are in the middle of the blocks, some only accessible with a lot of gps drift.
When walking down a street two devices side by side show up different results with one showing up/disappearing a pokemon before/after the other, sometimes a few minutes between them. Sometimes the sightings go completelly blank too.

Good luck triangulating in real conditions and not with spoofing when you go through houses like if they were nothing.
