I see several more spots that could be square blank plots. Obviously, they need to be in cities/towns, and ones that don't already have blank plots.

I feel like building gyms is very likely. Even more likely than building your home. It makes sense for a Kanto native to come to these island and bring a bit of Kanto culture with him.

I've found seven plots. Four in the OP's image, one that's also definitely a plot, and two I'm shaky about.

After catching all the UBs, you see a construction site digging down in those plots. After a lengthly flight of stairs, you enter a HUGE underground room of concrete and steel. When you do, a new UB shows up that's incredibly strong. It's uncatchable, but you can beat it. When you beat it, Marshadow pops out and reveals it wasn't a UB at all.

And no, it doesn't make sense to have a large empty lot in the middle of your town. We're not talking square inches; we're talking spaces as large as a building or larger. In the eighth, what's circled is an obvious lack of symmetry. There's a space as large as a Pokemon Center with nothing there. That's sizable, and could be a space for a gym. Granted, I'm not sure on that one.

It's not like creating the gyms erases the trials. You can have both.

You can't definitively say they're not going to happen, and that houses definitely are. Personally, I think houses are unlikely when there's five definite identified empty spots, all of which are in towns. The rest just remain empty while you pick one to serve as your house? I get that it's cool to pick where you want to be geographically, but it's a better use of space for all of them to be gyms or postgame battle challenges or something.
