Honestly, my biggest complaint about the controls now is that we can't toggle running on or off, nor do we have roller skates (yes, I actually liked them because they were very convenient - I just wish you could toggle them on and off so you could still walk normally with the circle pad).

That sounds like a "you" problem, because the typical thing to do is use the d-pad for 2D games and the circle pad/analogue stick for 3D games. Since Pokemon is now "fully" 3D (kinda), it makes sense to go with the "3D" controls. That's why analogue sticks were made to begin with, you know.

It feels more like booths on train station rather than Pokemon center

Gen 5 and 6 did a good job on combining marts with centers (and even changing place in gen 6). This feels like they wanted to go step ahead but failed
