I agree, gen VI has some amazing designs and therefore didn't mind the 'quality over quantity'. In gen VII there are less designs I like.
Although with gen VI I felt they revealed every interesting design before release while with VII I like more designs the datamine revealed.

I agree Gen 6 does looks better and the evolution lines are much smoother.
Gen 7 designs are probably the equivalent to Gen 5. G7 Having lesser Pokémon than 5 and many other regions should've been an indicators to the designers to but more effort in.
Vikavolt and Kommo-o are better than their Gen6 matchups

I played through XY twice. I couldn't stand ORAS to even beat it once.

ORAS are the only core Pokemon games I genuinely disliked and couldn't be bothered to finish. They made me hate everything about Gen 6.
