Festival Plaza uses its own currency, Festival Coins. I think you have to do tedious mini games for that. There will probably be a limit on how many you can hatch per day too, like with OG Join Avenue.

You can't do the "coin stuck under the circle pad" thingy anymore but I've always thought it was kinda pointless anyway, since you'd have to check if the egg hatched every 1-2 minutes, so might as well hold your controller in the first place.
