Will playing with a Starmie in my team be really that much different because now there's a new water-type move? Not really.

Will ledian not be dead weight towards the end of the game now because it has new moves? Most likely not.

Will my alolan ninetales fulfill a different role in my team than regular ninetales? Well, I can't say yet, but I doubt they made it a fast physical attacker.

We know how those pokemon work by now, we know what they can and can't do. We've known that for years.

But when new pokemon are introduced... we don't know anything about them. We get to discover what their strenghts and weaknesses are, we get to see what moves they can use.

Yeah, maybe if they added 120 new pokemon, 40 of them wouldn't be as appealing. But is that really a problem? Every pokemon is someone's favorite, so someone's bound to like them. And it adds replayability value to the games.
