Why the fuck does a piranha evolve into a fucking SHARK?

Gen 1 had a tadpole that evolved into bigger tadpoles. Also charmeleon got wings and bigger. and then you have two eels that turn into dragons, and a fish that turns into a giant long serpent. If two unalike animals evolving into another unalike animal is "dead" to you then Pokémon was dead on arrival

I think the issue with pipi bird is that it's a 3 stage. 2 very obvious woodpeckers then a toucan.

My favorite evo-line from this Gen is anything but "it just gets bigger." Wimpod, and it's unnamed evolution, are similar in design, and I'm banking on it to be very good. Where as that line undergoes a change in character from Basic to Stage 1, a Pokémon like Pikipek's Stage 1 evolution into it's final evolution, le toucan feel completely unrelated, removing the character of the Pokémon completely.
