Quality over quantity, IMO.

Given a gen like 2 or 4, where there were a ton of pokemon and so, so many of them were bad design-wise, I'd take a gen 6 or 7-esque gen any day. I love, percent-wise, many more of the gen 6 and 7 pokemon despite the fact that there are fewer of them.

Gen 5 is an exception to this, but I'm also absolutely biased towards gen 5
