Might be difficult to draw. Remember Groudon in the anime? If they can quickly get it out of battles, they don't have to draw it as much.

I dunno man. Game mechanics aside, Feraligatr seems pretty shafted in the publicity department. Like if you were to ask someone who you think ethans canon starter is, they will probably say Typhlosion. It wouldn't surprise me if that happened in a pokemon origins 2 or in a generations episode

Swampert feels like it gets the same treatment. It went from being the canonical starter to getting retconned by sceptile in oras
