Themes are too saccharine. I don't mind upbeat tunes but it's everything except team skull at this point as far as trainers go. I hope the gym leaders are a little more dramatic

Gladion's theme from the Silvally reveal is a lot more serious.

the rival theme is awful

there hasn't been a good rival theme since gen 4. The only exception is Hugh.

So far I've found most of battle music kinda boring, but most other themes like route music sound fantastic.

Hau's theme there almost sounds more like an encounter theme, or a "festive" placer like a Battle Frontier. ESPECIALLY between around 0:34 and 0:58. It reminds me of a route from Black/White.

so yes, it's straw grasping. especially since if gladion does the above, he wouldn't pick the remaining advantageous starter, as rivals are known to do. nobody knows anything about the character's motivations yet.

If Gladion is indeed a rival, then he may have the best rival theme in any pokemon game.

I like what seems to be the battle kahuna music. It plays at the end of the latest release video and was shown in a Japanese video too (w/ Hala).

I really don't like the other battle themes- especially the wild pokemon theme. Too much going on.
