How did the hype for SM go from 100 to 0 in such a short amount of time? Did we all suddenly realize how shit the new Pokemon and the rest of the game look? Gen 7 is already a bigger abomination than 5 or 2.

That is something I cannot agree with, OP. If anything, gen 7 looks better than ever. Probably because it seems that Gamefreak has learned from the mistakes in gen 6 while also implementing new ideas that have been wanted for so long.
