Pokemon spin-offs are usually much harder than the core games. Your best bet is hoping for a Colosseum/Gale of Darkness sequel. I honestly think that's more likely than GameFreak ever increasing the difficulty of the main series games.

The GCN games are an example of terrible difficulty though, it's achieved by limiting your choices to mostly shitmon and having a completely retarded levelcurve and grinding taking fucking centuries due to how slow the game is
