For DP, she has written the Chimchar episode dealing with his new experience under Ash as well as the aftermath of Ash's defeat against Paul. She also did the Steam Boat Willie filler episode and Brock getting the egg. For XYZ, she wrote the Serena cross dressing episode and the Sawyer vs Tierno episode. And she wrote the Mystery Dungeon episodes and one Pikachu short.

To be honest family XYZ22 was one of the most fun and entertaining episodes in this entire snorefest of a season. I don't even really like Serena but she was really enjoyable in it, and it had a lot of character building.

You praise Tomioka for his series direction yet XY/Z was just a bunch of buildup to absolutely nothing. Ash was blander than ever, the cast lacked chemistry, the rivals sucked, and Ash-Greninja was incredibly forced yet still ended up going nowhere. All of XY's novelties ended up being a huge disappointment.
Sure GT was messy but largely because it had the impossible task of dialing back Z's power level bullshit. The series was too far gone at that point.

If all SM does is give Ash some actually fun adventures and companions it will already be better than XY.

I agree when talking about XY&Z. There were barely any scenes of them doing anything meaningful all together and/or bonding like there were in XY. Even individual relationships between pairs took a hit aside from Ash/Serena and Clemont/Bonnie. Stuff like Clemont/Serena or Ash/Bonnie was always severely lacking, but XY&Z lacked even Ash/Clemont and Serena/Bonnie which XY had plenty of. This was mostly due to the increased focus on just Serena for the first half (wrapping up the Tripokalons) and Ash/Greninja for the second half. Until Alan took everything over.

Eh, stuff like Ash motivating Serena in XY&Z20 and the argument in XY&Z28 was okay. Their relationship was overall somewhat undercooked since yeah, a major part of Serena's interactions were crush-related and they went nowhere; they would've been fine if they were building up to her actually acting up on it (regardless of Ash's response), but as it is, her interactions could've been improved by giving the crush less focus and adding more variety to them. Serena's crush and the sheer unadulterated bait that was Ash Greninja were plot elements that shouldn't have been done in the first place if the staff was fully aware they couldn't have brought them to conclusion and cared about storytelling over marketing.

That said, the sheer act of confessing and being turned down would've shown just how much Serena had grown throughout the series and gained courage to do something she couldn't have done before. It would've brought some closure to that important aspect of her character and meaning to both the scenes where she showed attraction to Ash without being able to act upon it and to all the scenes where other characters noticed (especially to Millefeui's character who seemed to mostly exist to spur Serena forward since their rivalry was never really shown to be focused on Tripokalons themselves).
