They're both light-hearted, text-heavy games, and the reviewer who said that in particular just got done covering Color Splash so of course he's going to make some comparisons.

Pokemon does, for the most part, take itself seriously as far as dialog goes. Most of the writing in Paper Mario games are silly jokes. It's pretty obvious that the later is going to be more whimsical.
