Eh, looks alright, just not really what I look for in entertainment, I'm sure it has its demographic that will enjoy it which I'm glad for. Wasn't particularly interested in the anime in the first place so I'm not that destroyed about it going in a different direction.
Although what really annoys me is people taking freeze frames and captions that it's shit or something. Squash and stretch is a thing, a lot of frames from promotional material looks a wee bit off in my opinion, but just stop with the idea that a squash and stretch frame is supposed to represent the artstyle

Art is a decided improvement: Animation is more fluid, a change from the more common anime style (using manga as storyboards and adding motion) to a more genuine 'cartoon' style

Comedy is probably not going to be the best. Not sure how quickly the intended elementary school audience will get sick of Ash getting hurt and yelling gags but the IT'S FOR KIDS defense is not the strongest

Story remains to be seen. The trailers reveal nothing plotwise so it's impossible to say.

School theme will probably make or break the season, depending on how it's handled.

I really look forward to seeing Alola mons come to life. If Litten getting stepped on is a repeated gag there will be hell to pay if that thing evolves.

TLDR, crossing my fingers and hoping for a nice, bright, fun little series.

With each trailer it looks better. A more comedic and Slice of Life take for a Pokémon anime is something I wanted for a while, and what I've seen of the characters personalities and interactions looks good.

I don't have problems with the artstyle outside of Ash himself. He just looks off. His head shape is weird, and those z shaped things under his eyes don't work in this design. They look like mustaches half the time, and don't fit the more exaggerate expressions.

Fuck you niggers. The first few seasons of Pokemon was all jokes nonstop, its the Advance Generation or w.e the fuck it was called that gave it more seriousness and destroyed the series. I wanted wacky monster adventures not "dont kill me Squidhy" shit. Im glad this new anime is going back to the basic series.

Even when the show was doing the badge quest thing, the gym battles were mostly arbitrary checkpoints rather than plot advancement. For example, if Ash only needed five badges in Kanto, nobody would notice if the Surge, Erika,Sabrina or even Blaine episodes were completely removed from the series, since they were only different than the other stand-alone episodes because Ash got a pin at the end.

I think DP is the only season where most of the gym battles feel integrated into what little plot Pokemon has.

The main difference is that SM is meant to be nothing but a slapstick gag show. OS had story, like it or not. AG, DP and XY tried to appeal to a wider audience; light-hearted moments shouldn't be the main focus in an adventure series because it detracts from any plot.

DP had a very, very heavy focus on the training aspect of Pokemon. Ash would sometimes spend 8+ episodes trying to master a new technique, help one of his Pokemon overcome a weakness, or try to think of a way to deal with the next gym leader.
