Here's the simple way I can explain the three biggest problems with YW.
Imagine if 30% of the entire Pokedex was recolors.
Imagine if the "Stalked" Pokemon was the only way to encounter pokemon outside caves, and the only way to recruit them was a 3% chance after you beat them, 20% if you spend an item worth about 20 battles worth of cash, 50% if you wait around for 3 minutes for something to show up that gave you a boost 20% of the time, and 80% if you did all that, the pokemon used a specific move, and you succesfully did a minigame.
And if there were no trainers and Gym Leaders/E4/Champions were just giant Pokestar studios creatures.

Honestly it flops on just about everything of a "Gain 'em & Train 'em" RPG. I've beaten the first two games off of bets and refuse to touch the third.

The only gym that somewhat actually gave somewhat of a challenge was Gary's Gym in HGSS because there's actual variety there. Everything else was sweepable with only 1 Pokemon that was good against the Gym's type, which was always a major flaw with gyms in general. I'm actually glad they put that shit away for a while to make room for some fucking variety for once.
