If it were a different, random pokemon it'd be odd, but Null's entire existance seems unnatural anyway, so the idea of it's evolution being more akin to a form change challenges the idea of traditional pokemon evolution, while making it seem like, even though it's artificial, the fact that it's a Pokemon/has Pokemon DNA, qualities or whatever means that it has access to Pokemon-exclusive abilities, even if a bit fucked up.

Type: Null is a project by Aether to conyrol the UB.
Gladion steals Type: Null as it feels that its creation is some top tier bullshit.
Aether has no possible way to control the UB's, and start wrecking havoc on Alola, and soon the Earth.
Arceus is nowhere to be seen in the games because its tired of humanity's stupidity, especially trying to clone it.
Gladion goes from edgelord to anti hero, unlocking and gaining the true potential of Silvadi. He is crucial to stopping the UB Threat.
Colress shows up in between al this to give you the Memory Link, which is the real name of the item used to control Silvadi' type. Memory Link is both the name of this item and the in game system from B2W2 for memories, and its confirmed the item Colress was holding all those years ago.
Meanwhile Burnette is also tied into this whole thing, with the AR System ability being a reference to HER Gen 5 gameplay thing, the AR Dream Radar game.
