I don't think we'll visit Kanto anytime soon, I think we will get Kanto remakes eventually. Not sure if before or after the Gen IV ones, but for sure before we get to Gen V remakes.

Everything from before HGSS is in need of a remake way more than things that came out after it. That's where the shift in how to handle the environment, making cities and routes more visually unique, and the dialogue, making it less dry, happened, though since it is still a remake, those elements are more easy to notice in Gen V.
A Kanto remake will probably see the same kinds of changes to character dialogue and motivations ORAS saw, which in my opinion are the only good thing about that game.

It does during map navigation, which was the biggest problem with DPPt engine.

Also, while I don't think that was the fps fault, things like hp bar and especially the exp bar during battles was painfully slow thorough all of Gen IV. It doesn't matter if you're playing an hour or something, but it gets grating during longer playthroughs.
