Hidden Power Fire/Ground is a good substitute if you want accuracy and/or beat specific threads.
Also, Dazzling Gleam is a good substitute for Focus Blast if you need coverage against Dark types.

I've unironically had good luck with having Focus Blast hit when I needed for it to hit. Hell there were times when my Gengar could have just use Dazzling Gleam to finish off a dark type without sucker punch, but I decided to just use Focus Blast for shits and giggles and yet it still hit.
