At least the water in ORAS actually changes color at night.

ORAS just has a brighter palete for the overworld, which makes it feel like it's more 'alive' than XY.
But XY's overworld looked better in pretty much every other regard, although Kalos itself was pretty meh.
Also ORAS feels less 'choppy' than XY because you actually go out of the grid when you run, so the main character movement is a lot more fluid for the most part.
