Is there even a Pokeclone with a nonlinear world, visibly roaming wild pokemon, and a customizable fort? The closest thing I can think of is DragonQuest Monsters Joker but that doesn't have customizable appearances or custom forts.

Pokemon classes like breeder, type specialist, ranger, ace, etc that are more like perks with small benefits that can be interchanged at will so as not to require resetting would be enough. More expansive wilderness areas with more interactibles to encourage exploration would be nice too. We're already getting quests in SM. I think some modernization could do the series good so long as it adds content, instead of removing or changing it. I think a more free form Pokemon game with gym leaders whose teams are based on how many badges you have, one that doesn't require you to do the league or advance the plot in a rigid order could still lock players out of areas with dangerous Pokemon until they have enough badges, legendary Pokemon hidden away in remote locales, some with hidden side quests before or after capturing them, would make for a really fun game

Once you cleared them out, lapras was added to the encounter table in the area. Then when you caught a lapras, you could ride it out into the ocean and find a hidden laprasite mega stone.
