You guys are getting this wrong, if you saw the anime, you would've seen the episode where they speak of the old Greninja legend in the village from where Sanpei is.

That Greninja from the old legend looked EXACTLY like Ash-Greninja, someone achieved the same Battle Bond transformation before Ash could and the Greninja still looked the same.

~~though i do not know why they're marketing it like Ash-Greninja, maybe because it could sell more anime merchandise?~~

a long time ago there was a guy who looked like ash, there are idols of that guy somewhere. years later, Froakie looked for that guy and Ash resembled that guy, so he joined him. Since no one else discovered the super greninja til ash did, Bonnie dubbed him Ash-greninja and the term caught on like an Arnold Palmer

It's called Ash-Greninja because Ash's is the one that got formally classified. Like how planets, stars, and other things get named after the person who discovered them. It looking like Ash is canonically a coincidental
