The 3 monkeys from gen 5 are introduced much earlier and are much more useful in the game that the finneon line will ever be. They also appear many times and are good to fill type gaps early on. They become rather shit later though.

Gen II as a whole. It was so bad that most trainers use Kanto pokémon.

Stantler was found only in that grass before Ecruteak, and in the very next route you could find the much better Tauros or Miltank.

Snubbull was one of the 1% spawn rate and it was only available into one route.

Qwilfish was only used by early game fishermen (later on they'd use almost exclusively Gyarados).

Hoppip was impossible to train early on because it had no offensive moves.

Ledyba was only found with early bug catchers and other than spamming Supersonic they could do nothing.

There was Mantine, but who the hell would pick it over a Starmie or Lanturn?

Then there's the likes of Sneasel or Gligar who would be completely forgotten if it wasn't for Gen IV giving them new evolutions.

The Mankey line has abysmal distribution, being found normally only in Kanto and one Johto route. Anyone playing casually probably hasn't seen one since HGSS/FRLG.

Seadra has been reduced to near irrelevance by Kingdra.

Ledyba is a classical shitmon with mediocre distribution, though its uselessness is somewhat memorable in itself.

For a Pokemon in almost every game since its creation, Chinchou is remarkably unremarkable.

Hoppip's distribution is also surprisingly poor, though its ubiquity G/S offsets that a little.

Girafarig is underutilized, though memorable.

Honestly, who has any reason to think of the Snubbull line on a regular basis?

Teddiursa's line is another Gen II obscurity, along with Corsola, Phanpy, Stantler, and Smoochum.

Masquerain is only remembered for ruining a novel typing.

Torkoal, Spheal, Clamperl, and Relicanth round off Gen III.

Kriketot is pretty forgettable.

Burmy, Buizel, Cherubi, Shellos too. Lots of Gen IV gimmick-mon.

Happiny is particularly irrelevant among its irrelevant peers.

You'd be forgiven for thinking Lucario is a basic Pokemon, considering its prevo is Riolu.

Carnivine is just an oddball.

Lumineon is probably the most memorably unmemorable of them all.

Mantyke, most of the Rotom forms, Shaymin (since it's an event-only legendary that will never get another proper event).

Tympole, Maractus, Minccino, Heatmor. Gen V, against all odds, did a good job showcasing its 150+ mons.

Vivillion's prevos receive none of the attention Vivillion itself receives.

I'm sure lots of people willfully forget Spritzee and Swirlix.

Chinchou is a really great and versatile LC Pokemon. I think it's memorable for anyone who plays competitively on simulators (because everyone's been bored of OU one day and tried their hand at LC).

Granbull is forgettable but snubull isn't.

Phanpy is forgettable because seeing it doesn't really remind you of the much more memorable donphan because they're so different.

Relicanth is hard to forget because of the regi side quest.

Kriketune's cry is so memorable that kriketot has something going for it in terms of that association.

Pretty good list, I think I'd add slowking, gulpin and seel.

It was the first "weird" dual typing along with quagsire. But unlike quagsire everyone wanted to fish around the harbour to get one because Lanturn was fucking great and didnt looked dumb. There are tons of pokemon in gen2 that people forget because their distribution and/or catch rate were abysmal but chinchou is NOT one of them

I remember being really surprised to learn that Corsola existed. I guess I didn't do a lot of fishing in GSC because I picked Totodile and didn't need any Water types, but I remember using the Super Rod in Cherrygrove one day, finding a Corsola, and thinking it was super rare.

Also, as much as I personally like it, Beheeyem is pretty forgettable.
