Starters (and other pokemon) do tend to drop traits there pre-evos established and replace them with similar, albeit different ones. Like how Froakie and Frogadier have a scarf made from bubbles, but Greninja drops that, adds a hole new color to the design and even drops the eye design and gains a toungue scarf.

I wish, anon. I'm glad that the general proportions and look are still absolutely Barn Owl instead of becoming a more typical species, but I was really hoping the face would remain similar. I get that the dark, unreadable eyes of a Barn are not super relatable on a fully-evolved partner mon like a starter, so the anime eyes make sense. At least they look cute on Rowlet. People think they're related due to the wing spots, the hidden darts, and darts > archery. But a ton of owls have wing spots, the barn owl which Rowlet is based on does, hidden darts is an obvious conclusion after Rowlet's how schtick of throwing sharp leaves, same with archery. It's super obvious conclusions combined with weird design switches that relate to nothing in the previous evos...Dartrix is what makes me think the leaks are fake.

Even if Lit3 is fire/dark because muh heel, it's still incredibly boring that so many fire starters have this "big strong fighter" theme. Fire > hothead, sure, but doing it over and over and over is boring as fuck. I also just generally dislike overly humanoid Pokemon.

Pop3 beyond being an eyesore in terms of color, just looks fucking weird. It looks more like a weird alien than a seal, the eyes creep me out, the proportion of the head/neck/body feels wrong.

Arrowl's hood looks spiky in a very odd way, compared to the rest of the body. The "fingers" at the end of its wings seem very strange and unnatural, the orange thing on his chest looks like a starfish, and the way lines down his chest look quite odd. In general, he just looks like a weird combination of shapes. Incredibly sharp here, very round there, bubbly there, smooth here.
