The normal timeline: Emerald and LRFG, Platinum and HGSS, BW, and BW2.

Mega Timeline: ORAS and "Mega" FRLG, "Mega" DPPt and "Mega" HGSS, "Mega" BW, "Mega" BW2 and XY, and SM.

My point is, the second timeline has the same events as the first timeline play out similarly enough that we know they happened. The only thing we don't know is if there was or wasn't Mega Evolution present during those events.

Now apply that thought to Ash. Just like in the anime timeline, Ash travelled through multiple regions and collected badges from all over. Did it happen the same way it did in the anime timeline with the same characters? We don't know. Do we need to know? No.
