They are likely saving them for the third version / sequel games / remakes / whatever we're getting mid-gen. It makes sense from a marketing standpoint since they won't wind up overshadowing the new features. They want to have a series of VGC where they won't be seeing mega mom instruct destruction all the time. They also want to have a normal VGC season to base everything on. If they allow mega stones from Aloha mega evos, they would have to allow mega evos from previous versions. This ensures the season is as normal as possible. So, as logic shows, there can be new megas possible, but we can't derive that info from these rules.

OK, you're right, Super Training is sort of content. Not my kind of content, but it exists at least. Having things just be available from the PC or a menu doesn't really cut it. You spend more time staying one place or fiddling around in a menu than exploring the world.

My idea of real, true-Scotsman content is new locations and reasons to go back to existing locations, etc. Think side-dungeons, trainers, puzzles, DexNav, etc. One thing I hated about ORAS was the lack of trainers on Mt. Chimney after Magma/Aqua are defeated. There's the Lava Cookie saleswoman and that's it. Why bother going back there if there's nothing to do? The same goes with the ORAS Battle Resort. You've got a literally replicated Battle Maison (it even says it right on the sign outside), a small town, and that's about it. Meanwhile, the Sinnoh Battle Zone had the actual battle facilities, 3 towns, 6 routes with different biomes, and Mt. Stark.

More on-topic, putting Mega Stones in the game world gave incentives to explore for your game advantages. Now that they're available from a shop, there isn't much point. You can just spend all day grinding for BP for Mega Stones. Does that sound like real content to you?
