I still care about Pokken. Not a lot of content, and the roster could be better, but it's fun for what it is. Been waiting for Darkrai on Wii U for what feels like ages. Hope there's a fourth planned fighter to fill the last hole in the roster. It would also be nice if Pokken got an NX port with better graphics and a better multiplayer mode that doesn't require two whole systems to function properly.

I'm relatively hopeful that them not adding a couple of well known heavy-hitters like Greninja, Breloom, Snorlax and the like is simply beacuase they still need to have hype Newcomers for the sequel. I really hope that Pokken sold well, because an improved version of it with more modes and a bigger roster would be an insta-buy for me, especially if it's for NX.

But yes, I do agree. I understand the reason for the limited roster, but it'd be best for them to play off of Pokemon's large selection first before balance as far as popularity goes. They've shown that they're good at taking non-standard body types and making them work too, so seeing more things like Hydreigon, Aggron or Tyranitar, or hell even Metagross or something would be cool as hell.

Exactly. There are still tons of likely fighters begging to be added to the game. Japs are still furious that Greninja hasn't made it to the game. Americlaps still haven't gotten their representative Snorlax. Mexicans still don't have Ludicolo representation and Niggers don't have Scrafty. Saying the roster is "Ok" as it is is a pretty lousy deal. I know the game hasn't been out for more than a year (on Wii U, at least), but we're seriously in dire need of a big Pokken 2 already.

I know they will, if anything that's what annoys me. I normally love Nintendo and the Pokemon Company and don't mind their usual tactics of "pretend it doesn't exist even though everyone knows about it" because it's understandable that they don't want to reveal a Pokemon before schedule. The games target audience are almost definitely Pokemon fans. The problem is the bulk of Pokemon's fanbase is concentrated around Nintendo handhelds. Not many people are willing to fork $300 + whatever the price of the game is for a fucking spin-off title.

That, I believe, is a problem too. Pokken tries to be a fanservice and a competitive game at once, and that doesn't really work out. A competitive game needs to be careful with character balance, not adding too many of them at once and the devs must be closely observing the development of the metagame to not fuck anything up. But this move made it unpopular with the target audience - the Pokemon fans, who are only really interested in seeing their Golurks, Nidokings, Greninjas and wherever the fuck else duke it out on the big screen.

If I was a Pokken dev I'd honestly just say fuck it and go full fanservice mode like those Naruto and Dragon Ball games and bloat the roster to ~50 characters in the next installment (assuming there will be one). It wouldn't be good for the health of the game, but it would definitely boost the sales a lot.

Honestly I think they did an amazing job balancing it both for competive and fansefvice.

In terms of the roster, you have your 4 main marketing icons in pikachu, mewtwo charizard and lucario. Blaziken, Gardevoir, Garchomp, Gengar are all highly popular. Weavile, Sceptile, machamp, and chandlure are popular among more hardcore pokemon playeres. Braixen is there for furfags.

The only oddball choice is suicuine, and even that makes sense since it's somewhat high profile.

as far as fan service beyond that, each character has mvoes from the games and they act similarly (overheat debuffs you, for instance), and they are animated amazingly., and you have all the pokemon in the background.

As far as compeitive balacing goes, the roster is pretty damn well balanced. Even almost a year out from release and there haven't been new patches in like 4 month, there's still no agreed upon tiers and while tournaments tend to have more of certain characvters, every character still shows up and occasionally goes into the top 8 or 4.

They almost never officially reveal the starters final forms before the game release, and the Pokken reveal is scheduled for 13th of October. The only exception I can think of is Blaziken who was probably only revealed early for shilling purposes just like Lucario and Zoroark.

Yveltal is a top tier support now, and is especially abuseable on Braixen, which can refill it's support gauge very quickly with Sunny Day (Yveltal normally takes very long to fill up).

Another really good support Pokemon on Braixen is Emolga. People recently found out that maxing out your Strategy skill points make it take forever to recover from the speed debuff, which really fucks many, many characters over. There is an S1 player on ranked who got to the top just by abusing the Braixen + Emolga combo.
