The sad thing is, if all the veteran members of the fandom leave, who is going to be left to explain the history of the pokemon anime fandom?

Nobody will be around to explain XY, Serena, or going back further with Dawn being the co-star of DP and Paul, May successfully replacing Misty and the success of the Contests, AG and DP preferred over Johto, etc.

This stuff isn't documented properly anywhere. When new people want to come into watching the anime, they won't know what to watch. Otherwise you'll just get the original trio and Misty fans claiming you shouldn't watch anything after the OS.

They're absolutely right.

The problem with XY is that it was generally more serious and continuity-based (particularly XY&Z). When you develop a series that way, you create expectations for its ending, and copping out of almost everything that was built up over the course of three years sours the entire experience. A show that's more comedy-based or slice-of-life without big goals that are focused on can get away with little payoff at the end since it's not building up to anything big throughout. It's the road SM looks to be taking due to the absence of gyms and of the objective of winning a league. Graduating school is a much more normal goal that doesn't need the whole series to focus on constantly.

I disagree. The old series didn't matter in the slightest for XY. Ash never even said he owned this or that Pokémon when he came across a species he has at Oak's, nor did he ever mentioned he's traveled through many regions. It was entirely self-contained barring a couple small oblique references and thus wouldn't have needed to rely on past series in order for its own storyline to be properly completed.

And besides, If there was that much build up, with Ash using all of his best ones. having Infernape, Sceptile and Charizard to support Greninja; with all continuity intact and the anime flashing back to companions past and rival's past.

There's no way Ash would lose.

The problem with you XYfags is not being able to tell that the buildup didn't have the underlying nostalgia to support what you expected to see.


For it to have been Ash's first major win, it has to appeal with fans of the past series, with fans of the current series, and with newer fans.

So the perfect scenario where Ash wins it all is:

DP was again the same case, Ash making the TOP 4 was again him using a whole pool of pokemon.

BF was won by Pikachu, which to this date is still his biggest achievement prior to being the runner up.

Also, since AG, notwithstanding BW, Ash has been beaten by the eventual champion,

There was enough build-up with Ash/Alan and Greninja to think a win was perfectly believeable to happen.

You said it, it's a "perfect scenario". The problem with it is that the longer the anime goes on, the less they're caring about inter-series continuity. I find it extremely unlikely that they're ever going to do a series with that much continuity in it. They obviously don't give a shit about anniversaries, so what would cause such a decision? Only the anime ending, and even then I'm not entirely sure they'd bother. It's also something that's most likely not on the table for another 20+ years unless the franchise itself somehow ends. In the meantime they'll keep doing self-contained series that are only meant to waste everyone's time since they won't commit to them even when it looks like they are goint to.

My feelings are a combination of those two posts.

I think Amour is just bad writing pure and simple. It promised something that the format of the series simply couldn't deliver in any way whatsoever. Ash can't get a permanent girlfriend without the series ending, so the only alternative for the writers is to show Serena overcoming her crush, which they didn't, so any way they end this right now is going to feel rushed and awkward.

Honestly, I wish they stopped making the anime a continuing story and just made alternate universes, each with its own Ash and Pikachu (kinda like DC has a ton of multiverses each with its own Batman).
