Mega Mawile is best looking mega simply on the basis that it's naturally how it would look if it were to have an evolution.

IMO the megas that seem like blatant waifumon pandering isn't that good on a concept point, but on design, they're fine.
I think things that look more aggressive and battle ready due to the fact they seem like the ancestors of "modern day" Pokemon since in dppt and xy suggest that, are much better designed on all stand points as it seems less pandering-ish. The best example is mega gyarados looking much more akin to magikarp and is much more adept at taking down larger prey, and then its base form shows how it adapted to prey getting smaller and humans changing the environment.
This is my opinion and you can call me a teacher or a fag, but do consider this at least
