You say that but Pokemon have been able to transform since day one, then there were form changes and what not added over the years. Mega evolution and Synchro are just an evolution of those concepts.

Digimon on the other hand, originally Digivolution used to be permanent outside of Jogress. That is until the anime happened and they had to keep the cute rookies to appeal to the kids and what not.
