>>

Nice, I'm glad they're finally fixing these security issues.
>>
There's nothing Nintendo can do to stop A9LH. You obviously know nothing about hacking.
>>
>>28794911
I'd love to see them stop a9 like >>28794942 said. Good luck :^)
>>
This is Nintendo we are talking about. The WiiU can be hacked simply by visiting a webpage, and their "big" update to try to kill Wii piracy for good was to..... update the bootloader... with a glitchy writer that bricked many unhacked consoles and the hackers actually released a fix for in under 24 hours.

They know about as much about security as Ash knows about being a league champion.
>>
That's why I always only mod spare systems

That said, they won't actually "fix" anything, and I'm on the eShop fine

>>
For what I know this update actually can't be skipped to those on firmwares 11.0 onwards, so even if you choose not to update the concole will download and install it on boot, but I can't confirm this
>>
>>28794911
3/10 made me check
>>
>>28794991

Bull, utter bull. The system is not programmed to be able to force an update like that, and attempting to could wind up with many bricked systems that didn't have enough battery power to complete it.

Not blurry enough

Either way, they just can't uninstall A9LH because it takes over the console way too early and Luma locks it. At most, they can make Luma not boot properly on it and we know it'll get fixed in less than 24 hours. And that's not even considering we won't be forced to update immediately.

>>28794991
You know forced updates are against the law right?

What law?
>>
>>28795030
>You know forced updates are against the law right?
You know piracy is against the law right?
>>
>>28794911
They cannot force updates, and they cannot touch a9lh which boots before the system's OS
>>
>>28795030

>You know forced updates are against the law right?

Tell that to Windows 10.

WebOS also only let you ignore an update twice, the third time the "later" button would get greyed out.

Forced firmware updates, especially of a battery-operated device, would be a very very VERY stupid idea though due to the possibility of locking you out of the device when it could be a critical situation to need it (in the case of smartphones) or just plain risking bricking the device if it doesn't have enough battery power.
>>
>>28794942
make games require latest update upon release
>>
>>28795126
wouldn't impact a9 though.
>>
>>28795095
A 3DS is not an essential device like a smartphone, though. There's no "critical moments" you could possibly have on a device that's purely for pleasure. Furthermore, they do warn you to plug in your system before any update, they could get out of any trouble should a 3DS get bricked by losing battery power during an update.
>>

FIRM protection means you can update whenever an update is released and keep A9LH, so making games require the latest update upon release is fine because all A9LH users will always be able to update to the latest release and keep hax.
>>28795196
A9LH sits in the FIRM and its write-protection kicks in almost instantly, it's basically impossible for Ninty to get rid of it. the 3DS is cracked wide open atm and once you have A9LH there's nothing Ninty can conceivably do to fuck you.

You can choose to hack your console and not pirate too.
I use CFW more to stream screenshots to my computer and play obscure Japanese SNES games, like Live-A-Live.

Nintendo should be thankful of their hackers. Thanks to them the New 3DS is a very good emulation station, which made me buy it.

By the way... How feasible is for New 3DS to eventually emulate PlayStation?

It was about 1 month ago, but recently the guide got updated and now it's pretty easy to install A9LH into your 3DS.
Granted you've got Firmware version 9.2 in your SysNAND, it would be pretty easy to install A9LH.

Plus, A9LX + Luma3DS is much more comforable than boot to RxTools. It sure does worth the 1 or 2 hours installing it.

>>28799248
N64 is a very difficult system to emulate because of the strange GPU it uses.
DS can already be run natively on 3DS - using a R4 card.
Ambassador 3DS shipped a basic GBA emulator to the 3DS, which hackers used to inject other GBA roms on it.
And as for PlayStation, I've not tested it, but there are some videos of New 3DS running Final Fantasy 7.

>>28799323
I'm not interested in installing A9LH, I don't want to lose everything on my emuNAND in the event of a soft brick. I have too much invested in Bank.
>>

>>
>>28799323
I found the guide much harder and complicated than before. I went from rxtools to A9HL a few months ago just fine, a week ago a friend asked me how to make the switch and I told him to follow the guide on /hbg/, he says he didn't know where to start and that it didn't address what to do if you are already on emunand, and I didn't know what to tell him, it's so confusing for me now.
>>
>>28799323
I thought GBA software ran natively on the 3DS, which is why it disables multitasking and forces a reboot when exiting a game.
>>
>>28799344
The /vg/'s homebrew guide is idiot-proof. If you stick to it, nothing bad should happen.
And if it happens, the guide has also a very complete troubleshoot guide.

>>28799364
The thing is that it made the 2.1 downgrade much easier.
That's how I CFW'ed my Old 3DS which I've sold to a friend afterwards.

>>

It looks like /vg/ uses the Plailect guide, which is extremely idiot proof, I only saw one point where a soft brick seemed to be a problem.
>>
>>28800150
This. Don't do it at night because you won't have the patience to continue if something fucks up. After dealing with it for four hours I said fuck it and went back to RXTools which took 45mins.
>>
>>28800150
>>28800201
Only took me like 3 hours.
Though that's because everything worked first try, with the only softbricks being when it was resetting anyways.
>>
>>28800149
The guide says sysDownloader have a chance of soft bricking because of ambassador status or DSiWare, I don't want to lose anything because I need to do a System Format.
>>
>>28800256
But isn't the solution to a soft brick just having to reset the system?
>>
>>28800272
The solution to a soft brick is entering recovery mode and updating to the latest official firmware, from what I've seen. One thing I've noticed, though, is that on the discussion of that issue, popping the SD Card apparently allows the system to boot...
>>
>>28800256
Do a system format before downgrading. You'll be fine. You'd get attacked by an airborne shark before you end up bricking your 3DS.
>>
>>28800156

There's literally no downside to installing A9LH on your 3DS right now so if you're still sitting on old sysNAND and emuNAND method you're either lazyfag, mentally ill, retarded or edgy faglord.

There's no reason not to. There's no risk of getting brick at this point if you stick to guide on github and the whole process takes 1h.
>>
>>28800066 here again, I've never tried to downgrade my N3DS before, to clear stuff up, I'm just paranoid about softbricking while using sysDowngrader (not sure why I said sysDownloader) and sysUpdater on it because it's not formatted. >>
>>28794911
Ahh. This explains why I can't access my emuNAND... welp. No more illegal downloads, I guess.
>>
>>28800540
Don't worry. The danger zone was when downgrading to 2.1 firmware (as it was never intended for being run on a N3DS), but WiFi works as long as you leave it turned on before the downgrading.
And it seems you don't even need to when using the new guide.

I've installed A9LH in a New 3DS and I never risked a brick.
>>
Anyone else on rxtools?
>>
>>28800589
What's the new guide? Plailect's continues to use 2.1, it seems. And again, the soft brick seems to happen during the downgrade during the 9.2 part.
>>
>>28797999
This is why it's a good idea to save constantly. Windows didn't even give me a warning, or if they did, it was while it was in sleep mode, because recently it randomly shut down my computer in a forced restart for updates.

It would be really shitty of Nintendo to start force restarting your console, especially if you put it in sleep mode to save your position in a game. People would get pissed.
>>
>>28800589
>>28800660
2.1 is still needed for A9LH. But it uses a "CTRTransfer", which is a new method that copies only the relevant partition and keeps your console unique parts. That makes it much safer than the hold method and also doesn't need emunand at all on the process.
>>

>OP literally talks out his ass

>>
>>28800695
Still, the soft brick part at the 9.2 part is what scares me, according to the issue's page, it's either because of the system not being formatted, or the SD Card having an old Nintendo 3DS folder, or something.

It sucks that they haven't tried to research the 9.2 softbricks. It seems to be related to Abassador Titles or DSiWare but we don't know how. Possibly they leaving "dirt" on the NAND that the system doesn't like after downgrading.

>>28800318
>>28800568
You could just backup your saves with homebrew you know. The only losses after a format would be Mii Plaza shit (why would you even play this unironically), Activity Log, and your FC will reset so friends list as well.

I mean, my Mii Plaza is pretty full, and I only really bother with the puzzle shit, but my biggest issue is the friends list and the Activity Log, indeed. I was thinking about getting the CFW on my O3DS, and use that to get OoThax and keep that updated for my N3DS so I could keep permanent access to Homebrew on it.
>>
>>28800796
Or you could just back up everything on your computer. Once I bricked my 3DS because I updated while having homebrew (yeah I know I'm a retard). But I had the original Nintendo 3DS folder copied on my pc. I erased all the contents from the SD card then pasted the original folder. Couldn't install homebrew until a new hax came out, but at least all my stuff was there
>>
>>28800831
Idk, I'm not up-to-date with kickass, but svdt hasn't been updated in a while. JKSM does have a .3dsx version now though, you might want to check it out too.

>>28800873
This is not how it works with formatting. The hidden formatting count is part of what determines the key that encrypts SD stuff. After you format, the stuff on the SD become completely useless.

That's not for actual soft-bricks. That's only if your system had menuhax and was on 10.1 or less prior to formatting, which will cause your home menu to crash upon landing on 9.2, which yeah, is fixed by booting without SD.

We don't know exactly why or how softbricks happen, we just have an idea it's related to DSiWare or Ambassador titles.
>>
>>28801145
Well... I'll wait until I can downgrade my N3DS safely without formatting, I'll still downgrade my O3DS just for the hell of it. It's wiped clean after the System Transfer, and on 9.5, so no problem with it.

This, exacly this. It took me 1h, no more than that. I was on O3DS, 10.0.

People that refuse to do it because "muh too long" are just lazyfags.

it used to be 4-5 hours though

Can you disable the update nag on ver 10.1? That's the only reason why I cant install cfw on my O3DS :/

update nag on browser? set your date to 1/1/2000 and you've got 24h of free browser usage (fixed in 10.7)

Yeah, man. Can't access the browserhax option since it forces me to update. Thanks for the quick answer, man. I'll try installing cfw tomorrow.
