Lets see. Pokemon XYZ will start again in the first week of October. So far we know next episode is suppose to be Clemont/Bonnie goodbye episode. Then comes Ash Vs Serena that is the Serena goodbye episode. After that is Goodbye Ash Greninja episode and by the looks of it Ash is alone. Those are three episodes and since the Trailer of SM said it would start in November that means we'll have one last XYZ episode the last week of October which most likely be Ash in Pallet Town thinking whats next for him. So technically there are only 4 episodes left of XYZ before SM starts in November like the Magazine and Trailer said.

The Ultra Beasts, they are defined as extremely powerful and as threats to Humans and Pokemon. If they run rampant AshGreninja can arrive especially since Puni-chan went into sleep to get its energy back.

If it does leave at the end of Farewell AshGreninja to become a protector/guardian as Zygardes replacement for the time being, it showing up against the Ultra Beasts wouldn't be that far fetched.

Ash hasn't had a permanent release since Lapras, so I don't think he'll ever have one again.

Charizard, Squirtle, Gliscor and G.oodra all returned to Ash despite being left in places outside of Oak's lab. Greninja will be the same.

Especially if we have still some good serious moments!

It seems relax, "fun", more than before, but Pokemon is principally about battle! We're gonna need some serious and mature moments (also competent Satoshi), SM have potential for that.

I have big expectations for the link between Tapu Koko and Satoshi, Gladio and UB-02 : EXPANSION.
What I hope :

-Tapu Koko (who can talk) challenge briefly Satoshi and Pikachu to a battle on the first episodes.

Because of that :

-Tapu Koko VS UB-02 : EXPANSION, first Tapu Koko is alone, then, during the battle where it seems to lose, Satoshi comes to help, control Tapu Koko and use a Z-Move with it.

And all of that with obviously some fucking sakuga.

If we don't have something like that, I will be really disappointed...

We have also maybe the Trial captains and the Kahunas for more cool battles.
And Team Skull/Team Aether/Lilie for bring conflict/drama.
But it's too vague for the moments, especially the "school" thing.

I suppose it's principally for learn about Alola, but usually Satoshi do that during the adventure...that's most likely not really a "school".

How and why did this happen

I can see more of the show's drama around UBs. If I have to make a prediction, they will show menacing at first, then we will learn they are actually scared and confused. Aether Foundation knows they aren't as malicious and harmful as some think, but they don't care, they want to use them for their own goals, even if they have to abuse of UBs. Satoshi of course will not allow this.
