I don't see a female led pokemon anime happening even if she did Gyms. Even assuming it was some spinoff as Ash's show was still going, they pokemon franchise is always geared more toward boys.

You should just be happy the writers decided to increase the roles for female companions in the anime since Misty, but I don't think they'd ever let a girl star in her own show. The fact that Dawn faded away into obscurity after she left the main cast says a lot in itself.
