Calem and Serena are taller than and implied to be older than Emma, and she says she's 16.

And we don't have official ages for the Johto and Sinnoh MCs, but the dex has official heights, which IIRC match those of the average 12-year old (Johto) and 11-year old (Sinnoh) boy and girl at the time of the games' releases.

On the topic of the game timeline,Brendan, and May are 18+ by the time of B2W2/XY. Red, Leaf, and Blue are too if there were 2+ years between HGSS/DPP and BW. Ethan, Lyra, Silver, Wally, Lucas, Dawn, and Barry are all at least high school age.

And judging by how Dexio and Sina look at least a couple years older in Sun & Moon, enough time has probably passed between it an XY that all previous protagonists are 18+ now, except for maybe Nate and Rosa (who would actually be the youngest chronologically).

It's easy to tell just looking at their "full-scale" models. Look at the models used for the XY characters when you're trying on a new outfit in that game, and compare the size and proportions of that model to one of the character models from SM. They're on pretty much the same scale. The XY characters are taller and have longer limbs. They're at least 3-5 years older. The XY characters are meant to be in their mid-to-late teens, the SM characters definitely aren't that old, and definitely wouldn't be designed to even possibly look that old.

I'm pretty sure after Gen 4, the age of your character is made more non-specific. I find this more appealing, since 10 may seem to young for some, and 18 may seem to old for others.

All characters after Gen 4 could pass anywhere from 12-18, so that's what the ages should say.

Battles with smaller Pokemon seem to be. You also get a definite sense of scale with some of the Z-Moves like Pikachu's, Eevee's, and Snorlax's.

Not to mention they're throwing the Pokedex out the window this gen, tons of Pokemon are totally different from their "official" heights. Just look at Charizard, he's officially been retconned into being large enough to ride. Official art and in-game visuals confirm it now.
