I don't care how pathetic this sounds, but Pokemon is something that helped me and kept me going. I would listen to Pokemon music to keep pushing myself even if I didn't want to try, and the overall messages in Pokemon where its fine if you don't win, as long as you learn from it and can do better the next time knowing what you shouldn't repeat, and that you can go far.
Anyone have a similar experience?

Yeah, when I was younger I was all kinds of wrecked, in and out of hospitals, biopsies, surgeries, etc., etc.. Spent the majority of my middle-school/high-school years in-between surgery, in a wheelchair, bed ridden and fucked up on Vicodin.
So I played a lot of ROMs, mostly Pokemon hacks or Emerald. Hacking in single-type teams to go through the whole game. Those damn pixels made me feel less lonely that's for sure.
Also played a lot of Runescape, but that's another level of autism.

I don't think that's pathetic. It actually sounds really sweet

Yup me too OP
I came from a really broken/messed up home
Pokemon has been the only thing keeping me going since I was a kid. It's like my safety blanket.
I've always looked up to ash and how headstrong and kind he is, even when he doesn't win.

Well, too bad he's now more autistic than you ever were.
In 2013, I fell into a deep depression when I failed out of my university, but one of my friends from there kept playing Pokemon with me and encouraging me to work things out instead of thinking about other things (eg suicide and fleeing to parts unknown).
I started watching the anime again when XY started and I broke down reading the lyrics to V the very first episode. I got my life back on track and graduated this past March; right now I'm jobless, but I still keep playing V as I fill out applications and look at grad schools.
I always get laughed at for liking Pokemon at 25, but I've had it with me since I was 8 and wil never let it go..though I do wish I could make more friends who are into it (and anime for that matter, all my friends are normies).

I will be your friend in spirit, I am just like you.
Had to withdraw from uni due to severe mental issues, breakdown etc...still struggling with tons of debt and great depression, but pokemon has always been there , idc if its pathetic...it means a lot to me
Not me. It's nice to hear though.
