I took great joy in destroying him in his little "battles" because at the start of every new game I would import my living Pokedex into my game, so every time he "challenged" me I just showed him my complete Pokedex.

Tierno's awfulness isn't. He's just so obnoxious and useless. He's also he worst battler of the XY friends, which says a lot considering how bad they are.

Pic related, this is Tierno's team the last time you battle him. Trevor's the only friend whose team has complete movesets by the end, and this is including post-game Calem and Serena.

It would have been cool if it had actually been challenging, or if anything was at stake.

Alas, like all of the Gen VI rivals, he is a totally boring pushover who only exists to be outclassed by the MC.

Finally XY provides an actual challenge. It seems like Pokemon go out of their way to avoid Trevor, which is why his PokeDex is so shit.

Yep. Your traveling companions in X and Y aren't yardsticks to measure yourself against, they're crutches to prop up your ego. Bianca in Black and White wasn't very good either, but she had an actual character arc that made her feel like an important part of the story.

Why have the rivals gotten so shit over the years? Blue and Silver (and Barry, kind of) were dangerous when you battled them, now we have a bunch of anonymous losers who are annoying and nothing else

I like the idea of comparing pokedexes with a rival, just wish he actually was good at completing it.

If you're capturing everything new you see you're guaranteed to have more pokemon than hum.

I wish later in the game he started to have enough pokemon you would need to actually spend some time searching for pokemon with loer encounter rates to be able to beat him at pokédex completion.
I do so anyway, so comparing pokedexes with him was always overkill.
