Lillie makes sense, she's the professor assitant, so she's just learning to help the professor better, plus she's said to read a lot of books, so ofcourse she may also want to go to class to put her knowledge to test or something like that.
Now the trail captains, most of them look young enough as to still have to go to class, and since living in a tropical island may include having lot of free time they might want to go to class just to waste some time
