With a good amount of training Roswell evolved into Drifblim, learned Fly, and became confident that he could take on Gardenia or at least sail his friends around. Everything was going smoothly until she revealed a Grotle of her own - Atlas' twin, on the other side of the line. It began to mutter incantations and boost its stats, taking advantage of Drifblim's easygoing nature. It was at this point that I realized my entire team is physical. I switched to Dalloway, hoping to score some flinches or status effects, but to no avail. Dalloway sacrificed her life to weaken Grotle enough so that Teeth could finish it off. After that Roswell dealt with the rest of the team decently enough although Sand Attack/Wish Leafeon was really annoying so he sat back and PP stalled it so that BOSSGOD could get the final kill.

We gain our second gym badge, but at the cost of our first catch - a team player whose potential was only beginning to show. This tragic loss not only lowers team morale but also feeds the looming shadow of Fantina.

Did a run through the Celadon Game Corner and picked up a couple new captures. Still managing to not lose any members of the main team. Our first, and last loss was on Route 2. The gym battle went very well due to the tag-team of Soul Sista and Peak Beak. Gonna head to the Pokemon Tower, and down to Fuschia City from Route 12.

Is Origin Platinum any good as a 493 hack?

Sometimes. It can be a pretty big deal, especially if the enemies have status-inflicting moves or just in long fights in general. I think it's easier to apply to Vanilla games but FRO (Challenge Version) automatically has it so you can't use items in-battle and that was pretty rough.

It's okay in Gen 3. Has a pretty big attack stat. It's pretty slow, but once Spore is learned, you can pretty much always lead with that while you Cut/Slash dudes down. It was extremely useful against Misty. Only problem is you face a lot of Bird and Poison trainers in the game, and they trash it.

I'm planning to use Rotom-Wash but that puts me into an awkward position where my main Water-type doesn't get Surf. Is having a main team without Surf a really big deal in Platinum?

So in an update that took way too long to happen due to Windows 10 deciding to dump the Aniversary update on me and occupying my computer for several hours, I've suffered my first casualties. I had thought that perhaps the surprise Butterfree/Beedrill trainer at the end of Viridian Forest was a fluke, but now I'm going to be wary of super trainers at the end of every route.

Mt. Moon looms overhead, and I've no idea if I'm going to make it through it. I have only 5 potions, 5 antidotes, an oran berry, and an escape rope if things get really hairy. First order of business is probably to get whatever catch I get in Mt. Moon and train that and Lucas up to level. It's a hard road ahead anons, we'll see if I make it.

Postan my first run

If you didn't understand what I meant by >>28594572, I'm gonna tell you.

Seeing as how my LG Nuzlocke is going quite swimmingly, I thought it would be nice to take a li'l break from it just so I don't get overconfident. I tried running Naturia with the folks over at /vpn/, but that game doesn't look too well put together. So instead of playing it, I've started HG! It makes sense since I'm going in Gen order, and I've already made the template.

Anyways! I'll post the first template update as soon as we beat Falkner! Stay tuned!

Things are going a little too good. Have a Ghost type, haven't lost anyone, and I've succeeded in like 5/7 captures. Inside Sprout Tower right now with

Rebuilding in sacred gold after Pryce nearly wiped my team, with starmie and girafarig being the only survivors. Allahu the Electrode's light screen was crucial in girafarig 's nasty plot sweep.

I beat Cynthia, but I wasn't so lucky this time. Her Eelektross got a crit wild charge on my weakened Breloom and killed him. It sucks to lose a Pokemon in the final battle, but at least I won.

There's an awful difficulty/level curve after every two gym badges, it seems. I pretty much have to heal after every battle. Fortunately, Atlas evolved quickly so I should be in decent hands even though everybody and their mom has Icy Wind.

Playing through this Crystal randomizer really puts into perspective how awful the Gen II Pokemon distribution is. I've literally never even seen some of the sprites for these Johto mon in game, or haven't for years. It's almost like they're new fucking Pokemon.

The E4 were challenging, but we managed to escape okay with some Full Restore spam and luck.

Siebold type advantage kept me on edge, but Sandstream kept his team in check long enough for Abomasnow and Pangoro to steal a win

Wikstrom's team was PUP fodder until Aegislash came in with King's Shield, luckily Tyranitar was waiting with an EQ

Malva's team went down to the combo of Tyranitar and Quagsire

Drasna's Hydreigon and Quagsire found themselves dead even so Pangoro came out for the kill. Quagsire came back out to take on Rayquaza in a battle for the ages. Abomasnow took on most of the team with Hydreigon coming out to One Shot Megazard X

Diantha's legends were scary from start to finish. Lugia gave the most problems until Abomasnow used Ingrain and entered a battle of attrition. Finally Pangoro came face to face with God himself and abused that fucker for PUP boost, Mewtwo X fell to a 3x PUP boosted Crunch.

And then came AZ, the ultimate jobber. We did it.

Damn, am I having fun, or what?

Sprout Tower was challenging, only because I needed my team to be raised a bit in case of an emergency with Falkner. So, I kept Peter in the front of my team because he needed to get to Lv.11 ASAP for Rock Throw, and I just switched out to whoever was closest to leveling up to take care of the battle (cause we don't want Peter going up against Grass Types, do we?).

After all that jazz at Sprout Tower, Violet City Gym went something like Sprout Tower, where I would switch in the next 'mon after having the one who needed to level up in front, except this time I switched in to Peter every time because he had just learned Rock Throw, and the first 'mon I sent in was the one closest to leveling up.

The fight against Falkner wasn't bad at all. Pidgey went down in one hit, and Pidgeotto only got one Roost off, and a couple of Gusts, while I Rock Polished twice to make sure I went first so I didn't have to deal with Roost as much.

Now I just need to figure out where to go from here. Do I backtrack and check out Dark Cave? Is it worth my time to go there, or do I just go to the Ruins of Alph first?

Third try at Platinum, why is Team Galactic so ridiculous? That first commander's Purugly is not only much more higher level than everyone else in the area, it also hits like a truck. I knew it was coming and luckily had a Geodude ready so I didn't lose any squadmates this time.
Next up however was the second commander after Gardena with her Skuntank. I specifically grinded what I had, i.e. Mothim, Psyduck and Staravia because this was where I wiped the first time around and Jesus I realized how devastating that Dark/Poison typing is.

Yo! I went through a long haul since the last update. Took on the Pokemon Tower, and braved Routes 12, 13, 14, and 15 as I made my way to Fuschia City. I missed a few captures along the way due to either my clause, or fucking them up in battle accidentally. It's all irrelevant though, cause I caught a motherfucking Ditto. I wouldn't ever wish death on any of the current friends, but I'm gonna be using Kid A if anyone goes down. There were a few close calls on the way here due to all the delinquents with Poison types and bird tamers, but we all made it. Next up is either me getting cocky and challenging Fuschia early, or heading up the western route to take on Saffron. As much as I want to fight the gym, for the sake of survival, I'll probably do Silph Co. First.

Usually when I play through Kanto, I always hit up Saffron and the Team Rocket HQ before taking on Koga. This time around, the girls wanted a challenge, so I decided to take on the Fuschia gym early. It went extremely well despite being a bit under leveled. Koga's mons primarily used Sludge, so Big Bertha was the right choice due to her resistance and defense. I only ended up having to use her and Squirtle in the fight. Hitting Muk was tough after it got off 6 Minimize and 2 Acid Armor, but it couldn't put out any damage on Big Bertha, so it eventually went down.

T-things were going too well after all. I just managed to lose Peak Beak in the Fighting Dojo. Usually I won't mention a single loss, but in a run with so few losses, it's rough. Especially since she was almost a Pidgeot.

I didn't even have a chance to stop it. It was over when I selected fly that first time. I'm probably gonna replace with Kid A (Check my last update for my boxed options) but if there's a better choice, feel free to suggest one. Grinding a new mon up is gonna be hard since I don't have XP Share.

Not a bad idea, I tend to avoid using Eeveelutions since they're so over-represented, but I just realized since I always avoid them, I've never really used them. May be the time to pull one out, an electric type would be nice. Though I'm interested in using Doduo right now, even though it's bad coverage wise. Kid A just died grinding, so I'll probably go with Doduo and go Eevee later if someone else buys it.

Never done a nuzlocke, but in the paste bin it says catch the first Pokémon you see every route. Is this only done until you have 6 pokemon or until you have one per route?

Also if a Pokémon faints do I catch another on the next route or do I continue with only 5 pokemon?

You can have boxed Pokemon so yeah, one per route. If one faints its dead, you don't get to catch a new one to replace it outside of the one-per-route rule.

meanwhile, I caught some new friends (Jake, Yorgos, Roman). Gonna make sure Roman will be a Palpitoad by the time I reach burgh (which will be v soon), cuz from the first gym trainer I deduced it will be a Steel type gym and that's kinda scary, considering the similar strength feature his Leavanny will probably be replaced by something fairly dangerous. Roman + Hax Overlord Nathaniel should be able to handle him.

Wasted my route 4 encounter, but it was a Shellos, and as you can see I have plenty of water types already. On the same route: Fishermen whose Basculin had been replaced by Magneton and Staraptor, respectively. Kinda scary, really glad I had Yorgos around or that Staraptor would have been a serious problem.

Also, the shaking grass in Castelia Garden turned out to contain Medicham, which would've made for a cool catch except it doesn't have Pure Power now, but Thick Fat. Yorgos the Dweeble probably makes for a better catch in the long run.

Nothing's wrong with it, it's just that if you don't get one or pick chimchar there's no other fire types. A lot of parts in the game become easier with a fire type, like the 2nd, 6th and 7th gym, 1st elite 4, and any time a Bronzong shows up.

Short and skinny, we got fucked up. After losing a bunch of mons trying to replace Peak Beak, Epie eventually was grinded up without dying. From there we took on Silph Co. and Sabrina, but her Alakazam was just too fucking fast and strong. I'm amazed we got out of there at all.

I'd say Bellsprout, Diglett and Meowth are probably your best options for replacements. You could also wait and see if you catch anything good in the next few areas.

I'm gonna take that advice and go for Bellsprout and Meowth. Big Bertha's Ground type game is already pretty strong, so I'll save the sixth slot for a later route. It's gonna be one hell of a grind since the two new guys are levels 9 and 16 respectively, but we'll persevere.
