Your friend is getting into Pokemon and wants to play some of the cartridge games.
Which do you recommend starting with?
What are the essentials?
Which can be overlooked/not played?
>>28580286
r or b or y first, must play
>>28580311
kys, beeyotch
>>28580286
If they played Go, I tell them to fuck off unless they actually want to get into the game, rather than being a faggot.
If they're serious, I usually tell the gen 3 or gen 4, depending on their taste.

I don't wanna kiss you.
>>28580286
Pokémon Dash is a must.
>>28580335
thanks for the (you), retarded nigger
>>28580286
I would tell them to play FRLG on an emulator, Emerald if they really wanted to, then move onto both Platinum and HGSS
>28580353
Your welcome, you autistic mistake
FR/LG.
Gen 1 is completely redundant nowadays.
>>28580286
The only right answer.
>>28580286
Also HGSS and Platinum.
Ruby, Sapphire, Gold, Silver, Diamond, and Pearl are unnecessary.
>>28580464
>Setting them up for disappointment
They're going to stop playing if they find out the rest of the games are shit tier, at least add one shit game.

I am marathoning the Pokémon games. Please help.
>>28580406this game makes me cry every time I play it ;___;
My good friend had never played a pokemon game. Didn't grow up with it, knew nothing about it, didn't recognize any pokemon besides Pikachu and the ones in Smash. I gave him what I think is the best 2d pokemon experience, Soul Silver(inb4 "bad level scaling") and he loved it. After that I gave him X and he played it for a little bit and got bored. Didn't like any of the later gen pokemon.

FR or LG, basically the originals with some nice improvements, especially in the graphics department.
>>28580541
Thats because its literally for children, HGSS was just a miracle.
>>28580286
Not even memeing, XY are the best starting point.
>Updated graphics are easier for new players to adapt to
>Game is piss easy, great for beginners
>Lack of post game means other titles will be appreciated for that feature when played after the fact
>Mix of both old and new Pokemon is great to stay objective
>Story is decent enough where most people can enjoy it to a capacity
>Character customization is a HUGE perk
Aside from that? FRLG followed by HGSS, and Platinum are great.

>Which do you recommend starting with?
FR/LG, tell them that to understand the entire piece of shit you call a "game" completely, you have to start off with the remake of the first.
>What are the essentials?
FR/LG -> HG/SS -> Emerald -> Platinum -> B/W(optional) -> B2/W2(slightly confusing without B/W)
>Which can be overlooked/not played?
R/B/Y, G/S/C.
Though I do recommend playing R/S or OR/AS, D/P or X/Y, they have different experiences than the essentials or the ones that are important or have less content than the remakes BUT, they're there if you're extremely curious about it.
>>28580533me too Anon, me too
>>28580591
agree with this desu, the story sucks though
First I'd recommend is FireRed. Best way to ease someone into the franchise.
Essentials after that would be emerald, platinum, hgss, bw and bw2.
Then I'd say xy.
First 2 gens can be overlooked. RS, ORAS, and DP can also be overlooked. Strictly for completionists.

>bw
The worst games in the series are not essentials.
>>28580750
In my opinion, they aren't the worst and to me they are essential.
>>28580750
Please don't start with the shit
