I know it makes some people mad but I nickname all the breeding leftovers I trade away. When you receive a Pokemon without a name it's easy to just shove it in a box and let it rot but I like to think that when you give a Pokemon a good name you're sending off it with the wish that it will become something special to the person receiving it.

If it came from a previous gen that the pokemon has ZERO chance of ever going back to, there should be no reason why you can't rename it. You can rename a pet if you get one with a name, why not here?

During wonderlocks I nickname every Pokemon.
Tentacools get named "Acooltent" and Magicarps are named "King of Karp".

A bigger pet peeve of mine is how the game doesn't automatically translate a Pokémon's name if you traded with someone abroad. Okay, cool, if it's not nicknamed, it'll revert to my language when I evolve it. If it doesn't evolve then I'm stuck with Lecroissant the Kangaskhan.
