How does it make sense that Fairies are only weak against steel and poison?
Other than an excuse to make two of the worst offensive types more viable?

You literally said it yourself. What was the point of this thread?

"Silversteel" is super effective against the filthy blasphemous pagan supernatural. Pollution kills hopes and dreams.

>silversteel
it's cold iron
which specifically isn't any special kind of iron, fairies just hate iron in general because it's so unmagical

It's actually really consistent with fairies in European mythology. They're vulnerable to "cold iron" (forged steel), because it embodies something not found in nature (i.e. manmade). Pollution, aka poison, is the same thing.
tl;dr: In European mythology, Fairies are weak to anything manmade.
