Most of XY was the typical over detailed anime stillshot where the mouth moves and MAYBE if you're lucky the head moves. Every now and then for key scenes or battles they animate in full. Important battles get a massive step up and most of the budget.

They even use quite a bit of my personal favorite anime budget technique. Showing the character from behind so you don't have to animate everything.

Sun & Moon is a low detailed style with constant fluid animation outside of key scenes. I think the only out right awkward moment is Lillie's arm moving down. The one in OP looks fine in full motion. It's only awkward as an inbetween frame. It's noticeable but it all flows together well enough.

Not necessarily a bad thing. Some animators choose not to put as much effort into details on a character so they can put more focus into fluid animation. Take Mamoru Hosoda as an example. Thin line work, practically zero shadows and shading, but his characters are expressive in both their faces and body language.

One thing I watched out for in the trailer was the potential return of speed line backgrounds. Not only did I not see them, I didn't see CG backgrounds either. All the backgrounds seem to be drawn for potential animation, and I'm looking forward to that.
