Hyup, Torterra thread.
Pic unrelated
>>28550444
Charizard was pretty shit in Gen 1.
Its special was 85, and there were other better psychical attackers.
Stat wise, Venusaur is the only good Gen 1 starter.
I fucking love Torterra. It has to be my favorite grass starter of all time. I even used it in gen 5 VGC.
Pic unrelated.
>>28550489
That was easy
Also yes, Tortoise is best starter op
fucking love them
grotle was a bit odd though, i think the second stage could've been done better
>>28550444
MAH NIGGA
>>28550489
Dude, in gen1 all the starters are shit
literally everything that wasnt Normal, Psychic or a check of those was shit
Typing is debatable. Everything else is spot on!
>>28550444
I like Charizard but not the pandering it has. Torterra however, I absolutely love the bastard, good taste OP.
>>28550538
Yeah Grotle is pretty weird
>>28550444
Somebody explain me why is Charizard so beloved (I know the OP talks about Torterra).
It has to be the most overrated Pokémon ever made.
Pic related is best starter, Totodile is bro.
>>28550444
>>must pick starter of its gen
But that's Infernape, it steamrolls Gen 4.
>>28550633
>why does everyone like charizard it's just a dragon
>feraligatr is the true best design, a bigger totodilei like them both but still
Literally my favorite Pokémon
>>28550633
MY NEGRO
>>28550444
>>great dual typing
>>great in game mon
>ice beam
>slow as shit
I mean, i did pick it all those years ago, but i don't see ot being that good with the abovementioned in mind
>>28550633
He's a fat dragon, so everyone under the age of 13 loved him when they first played red.
Also fire types are the most popular
>>28550444
Torterra is easily the best designed starter in the series. If only had shell smash like in the fan patches.
>>28550444
>tfw come in here expecting to shitpost about Charizard
>read OP
Trips confirm excellent taste. Nice job, OP.
>>28550538
>>28550623
I found that I liked Grotle more after I saw its model. It always looked bad in sprite form, but the model made me realize it has the same jaw that Turtwig has and they improved the face to not look awful.
pic related: Feraligatr with any other stater in its way.
Not sure why OP posted unrelated pic
>>28550504
Pic unrelated aside, your pic was the shit for me when a kid. Only one weakness and good stats was awesome. Too bad the GBA sprite fooled me into thinking he was huge and buff when he in reality was supposed to be a lanky manlet
>Great dual typing
kek
>>28550538
It has its charm. Looks like builder bob
>>28550633
Edgy monsterbating 10 year olds (so every ADHD infested kid, so 90% of every kid ever) saw muh badass dwagon and flocked to it. Then the cool kid hype bandwagon served as a further catalyst.
These are simple minded brats we're talking about. Easy as shit
Torterra is prolly the best starter for long term survival due to absorb moves keeping it healthy. OP is based.
>>28550670
Every kid picked totodile for the same reason too tho. At least in my place
Empoleon is pretty ball'in.
>>28550670
I'm not even criticizing the design, I just don't get why people like it so much.
I even like Venusaur better than Charizard, and Blastoise is just much cooler looking.
Water starters usually look much better than the others.
>>28550875
Mine usually has an adamant nature so absorb usually doesn't do much.
>>28550938
>mfw I taught Empoleon blizzard instead of ice beam because it seemed a lot more fitting for a penguin
>>28550444
>charizard
>must pick starter gen 1
>venusaur has type resistances for half the gyms in kanto
>>28550938
>mfw the weird as shit starter triangle in sinnoh made each starter counter each other
>the grass type only countered the water type with its dual typing
>empoleon was actually a better counter to torterra than infernape was thanks to ice beam, and infernape to empoleon because of speed and close combat
>>28551040
Feck I got beaned.
>>28550969
See>>28550857
Today the above has resulted in nostalgiaglasses
>typhlosion is the only fire type starter I've used
>he's also probably the worst fire starter due to awful coverage
>>28551040
Venusaur also CAN'T do shit for half the gyms in kanto, all of them being in the midgame
>>28550746
The dual typing is a really double-edged sword. On the one hand, it has great resistances in quakeedge and an immunity to half of volt turn, but on the other it's a grass type that doesn't check water types and is terrified of scald. I use it to set up pebbles, but I'm also interested in the double dancer and subseed sets.
>>28551127
This, cept for Fennekin. Boxed it as soon as it evolved and i saw its final form
>8 year old me
Dragons are awesome, fire is the best starter type, so a dragon with fire coming out of his tail is super awesome. Plus, Ash had one.
>Me now
Nostalgia, fire is still my favorite type, he was the box mascot for my first game (which I suppose is another flavor of nostalgia, but whatever), and his megas make him actually usable.
Additionally, the merchandise loop kind of feeds itself here. Charizard was the most popular starter in its day, so they made more merch for it. Now that there's so much merch for it, new people to the franchise are exposed to it disproportionately more than any other starter, which gives it more fans, which encourages more merch.
>>28551143
That reminds me, FR/LG really boned Venusaur against Agatha because of abilities.
>implying rowlet isn't the best starter
>>28550444
>best starter
>not Serperior
boi
>>28551816
>I'm a vorefag
Thanks for telling us.
>>28550538
Torterra has a lot of unexpected bara.
>>28550444
Torterra is must pic mainly so Barry can have a very fitting Infernape.
It's also one of your main options for a grass type early on outside of Budew, while you can get Psyduck and Ponyta earlier surprisingly.
