Please tell me a better fire type alternative I can get somewhat early on. Vulpix is not that good, HG has all the better exclusives. Growlithe, Mankey, Phanpy vs Vulpix, Meowth, Teddiursa.

Starters are generally fun to use. The only time I've boxed my starter (at least on a first run) was in all Gen 5 games, since their starters are all awful. I'm not sure yet, but there's a good chance I'll be boxing my starter in SM too.
